About this Course

Join the Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association and Auburn House for Kayaking for Kids this summer! In this two-week program, kids will learn basic balance and stroke techniques in a fun atmosphere. We will supply kayaks, paddles, team shirts, and PFDs (life jackets). PFDs are required while on kayaks. All paddlers will be required to complete a basic swim assessment on the first day (ability to tread water and swim 50 m) and during this time, the instructor will show paddlers how to right and re-enter a flipped boat. There may even be a chance to participate in a fun sprint regatta on the Saturday immediately following the session (TBD based on restrictions). All participants must have a minimum swim competency. The Aqua Quest 6 or equivalent is a reasonable guide (does cannonballs, dives & rolls into deep water, can tread water, swim underwater, swim front & back crawl).
